Check Out “Hamlet” at Ole Miss!

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Attention students in Oxford, you have an opportunity to watch “Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”, one of Shakespeare’s greatest works on Friday, June 25th and Friday, July 2nd at the Ford Center for performing arts as part of this years Oxford Shakespeare Festival.

“Hamlet” features many dramatic elements which are present in an epic play such as a king’s death, a ghost’s revelation, a brother’s ambition, a queen’s passion, and a son’s revenge. The audience will definitely be entertained by Joe Hunter Cantu’s version of the grand tragedy. Cantu, director and Ole Miss Department of Theater Arts acting program head, trimmed the production to be 90 minutes shorter than Shakespeare’s original version. Touring actor, Edwin Hanson, who portrays Hamlet’s victim, King Claudius, thinks that Cantu’s edit of the play is “Brilliant. The script we’re using removed a lot of the ‘thees’ and ‘thous’ and is a little cleaner while maintaining the rhythm and pulse of Shakespeare’s language.” Whether you’re a hardcore fan of performing arts or a casual Shakespeare fan, “Hamlet” is a play that you don’t want to miss!

Student tickets for the performance are available for the excellent price $11.  Call the UM Ticket Office at (662) 915-7411 to order.  For more information on additional performances of “Hamlet” and the Festival, visit http://shakespeare.olemiss.edu.

Toy Story 3: Movie of the Year?

Monday, June 21st, 2010

The third iteration of Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story franchise is most definitely a hit. Grossing $110 Million in its opening weekend and garnering rave reviews across the critical spectrum, the animated film is easily one of the biggest movies of the year.

The movie begins with Andy Davis (the owner of the toys), preparing for college. He decides to bring Woody with him and packs the other toys in a bag which he intended to store in the attic of his home. Unfortunately, his mother assumes that the bag is trash and takes it outside. Believing that Andy no longer wants them, the toys sneak into a box to be donated to a local daycare center. Woody, the only toy who saw Andy’s mom’s mistake, is forced to go to the daycare center with the other toys. Woody tries to convince the other toys to return with him, but they decide that they are happier being at the daycare center. Can Andy reunite with his beloved toys? See the movie and find out for yourself.

If you haven’t already, take a couple friends with you and check out this amazing movie. Don’t forget to ask for a student discount at the box office!
