Presidential Pop Culture

“President Obama’s appearance on the Daily Show this week was not merely a publicity event - it was a historic event. Because as soon as he walked onto Jon Stewart’s set, Obama became the first sitting president ever … to appear on that show.

Now, granted, only two other presidents even had the opportunity to appear on the Daily Show. But so what? When Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first president to appear on television at the 1939 World’s Fair, it was no less historic simply because television had recently been invented.”

With the the Midterm Elections around the corner, it was a very smart and informational appearance our President casually delivered on the Daily Show with comedian and actor Jon Stewart. However, his decision to appear on such a popular, entertainment television show on Comedy Central is being criticized by some of his audience. These conservative watchers believe that it was not appropriate to have an interview on this type media when interacting with American society. The majority of the country, in all demographics, watches this form of communication in order to receive their information on American and foreign politics or to hear a different perspective on them. They also watch shows such as The Colbert Report, The Early Show and other shows on all major television networks worldwide, in many languages. If you are planning on voting on Midterm Election Day, November 2nd, you should watch the interview to gain additional information from President Obama himself in order to make the best educated decision.

Halloween has different meanings for different people. Some use it as the time of year that scaring someone out of their mind is perfectly acceptable. From haunted houses, trails, horse and buggy rides, corn mazes, as soon as it turns October 1, people’s minds already start churning as to what their perfect Halloween costume will be.

If haunted houses are not your thing, dressing up in something cute can be! Many people opt to use Halloween as a time to dress up and their favorite animal. Popular choices are mice, cats, bunnies, or something completely different such as a peacock. Having a funny sense of humor comes in handy during Halloween as well. Sarcastic costumes are always giving people laughs. Examples are taping cereal boxes all over your body with a plastic knife in hand being a “Serial Killer” or coloring one of your eyes black with a huge P on your shirt going as a “Black Eyed Pea.” People get creative!

Place Properties apartments are having many costume contests for all of the residents so put together your best idea and show up at the party! Playing games such as going bobbing for apples or carving pumpkins with a big group of friends is always something festive to do as well.

Have a Happy Halloween weekend!
