2010 Athens Halloween Block Party OU students!

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

“Athens, Ohio, has been called one of the most haunted places on the planet…and, perhaps by coincidence, the city is also host to one of the largest Halloween block parties in the nation. Every year tens of thousands of costumed party goers fill Court Street in Uptown Athens.

Attendance estimates are anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000. Each year the number fluctuates depending on the weather.”

Good news for Ohio University that this annual celebration is only miles away from your campus. Halloween imagery includes themes of death, evil, the occult, magic, or mythical monsters. Traditional characters include ghosts, witches, skeletons, vampires, werewolves, demons, bats, spiders, and black cats. Black and orange are the traditional Halloween colors and represent the darkness of night and the color of bonfires, autumn leaves, and jack-o’-lanterns. On this most loved and feared holiday you can take your creativity and expression to the streets of Athens to celebrate Hallow’s eve. The fiesta will include costume competitions, music and other events scheduled throughout the evening. This craze is taking place  on Saturday, October 30th from seven in the evening until the movement begins to stop. Remember at midnight it will officially be Halloween day, October 31st. Don’t be afraid of the dark.

Free Tango Lessons at Rumba! Cafe Bloomington

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

“Tango from the region of the Rio de la Plata was seen in one study to help heal neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease in a manner that was greater than the same amount of regular exercise. Parkinson’s sufferers given tango classes showed improvements in balance and other measures not seen in another group of patients given regular exercise classes. The researchers said that while dance in general may be beneficial, tango uses several forms of movement especially relevant for Parkinson’s disease patients including dynamic balance, turning, initiation of movement, moving at a variety of speeds and walking backward. Dancing tango has been linked to increased heart health, better balance, improved memory, and weight loss.”

Every other Tuesday as a member of the Bloomington and Indiana University communities, you can partake in this life changing dance at no cost. The BATO Bloomington Argentine Tango Organization free Tango lessons at RUMBA! Cafe.
