Keep Lafayette Place safe over break!

Friday, December 31st, 2010

With the end of the semester now being closed, we know you’re excited about getting home to spend some time with your families for the Christmas and New Years season. This means leaving your apartment at Lafayette Place. Going home for the holidays is very important but you must not forget to keep your apartment’s maintenance up before you go and for when you return!

Be sure to keep your thermostat on a solid temperature to avoid your pipes freezing. If you’re planning on being gone for a while, it’s suggested that you do a mass “winter” cleaning before you head out. Throw away all old food, or food that will expire before your return, out of the refrigerator to avoid molding, or smelling when you come back. Dusting off your countertops and furniture will be a lot easier to do when you come back from break if you do one big sweep cleaning before you head out of the door.

Make sure your room is locked, and all flammable material is away from electrical outlets as well. You love your apartment at Lafayette Place, so keeping it safe is top priority! Happy New Year!

Time reveals World’s top destinations for 2011

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Humans always have a curiosity to visit places, physical locations across the world where the mind has wondered to or fantasized about visiting, but only have in their wildest dreams. With the new year lingering just around the corner, many people across the universe are contemplating a New Year’s Resolution. If you are considering the usual eat better, get in shape, pay off certain bills, etc, maybe this year you could make plans to visit the places you have envisioned in your mind into reality.

Time Magazine and CNN named its World’s top destinations for 2011. What a better place to start than by a social suggestion by a valid source as inspiration for your next vacation.

“Here’s wishing it’s somewhere unforgettable — and the time to plan your journey is now, as the New Year brings the customary yearning for a fresh start and the promise of new people and places.

To set your itinerary in motion, we sought out recommendations from three travel experts: Robert Reid, U.S. travel editor for Lonely Planet; Pauline Frommer, creator of Pauline Frommer’s guidebooks; and Martin Rapp, senior vice president of leisure sales at Altour.”

Visit the CNN Travel website to see which places across the globe are the most entertaining and must sees for the year to come!

Spend NYE 2011 on a train in Athens!

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Bringing in the new year is always supposed to be brought in a grand way due to the tale that “how you bring in the new year determines how great your next year will be”. New Year’s Eve is a separate observance from the observance of New Year’s Day. New Year’s Eve is celebrated with parties and social gatherings spanning the transition of the year at midnight. This is an international holiday, and every country and nation has it’s own way of ringing in their new year.

In the United States, New Year’s Eve is a major social holiday. One of the top destination cities for New Year’s Eve is New York City. In the past 100 years the “ball dropping” on top of One Times Square in New York City, broadcast to all of America (and rebroadcast in many other countries), is a major component of the New Year celebration.

Try something different this year, and hop aboard one of the Athens New Year’s Eve trains! Passengers will be able to ride in either a wine and cheese car or feast on Pepsi and pizza in a car suitable for all ages. The train will stop shortly before midnight so passengers can watch and hear the New Year be ushered in with a big bang followed by a spectacular fireworks display!

The festivities begin at 10:30 p.m.  at 33 East Canal Street, Nelsonville, Ohio.
