Get Ready For More Spurs Action!

With the NBA lockout over, it’s an exciting time to be a basketball fan. The NBA season will kick of on Christmas Day 2011 and teams will be playing a 66-game season. The San Antonio Spurs are looking to win their first NBA title since 2007.

Over the past ten years, the Spurs have been an NBA powerhouse and they are looking to take home their 5th NBA Finals trophy. The team is led by the “Big Three” of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker along with key role players such as Gary Neal, DeJuan Blair, Richard Jefferson, and Matt Bonner. They have one of the deepest squads in the NBA and their stellar record is a direct reflection of that.

The Spurs have a special program for college students called “Spurs U” which offers discounted tickets to college students including $30 lower level seats and $5 standing room seats. Switchfoot Is Coming To The Valley!

On Friday, December 16th, alternative rock band, Switchfoot will be performing at Pharr Events Center as part of their nationwide tour. The band, which is well known for their energetic live shows, will definitely provide an unforgettable night to all who attend.

Switchfoot is best known for their harmonious hits “Dare You to Move” and “Meant to Live” which both reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Modern Rock chart. Their 2003 debut album, The Beautiful Letdown, included the two aforementioned songs and sold 2.6 million copies worldwide. A defining attribute of the band is the “Switchfoot sound”, which is an eclectic combination of electronica and hardcore guitar riffs which are balanced out by lead singer Jon Foreman’s vocals.

Their latest album, Vice Verses was released this year and received excellent reviews. It reached number eight on the overall Billboard charts and number one in the Christian Music category.

Snoop Dogg And Wiz Khalifa Are Coming To San Francisco!

Attention UC - Berkeley students and music fans around the Bay Area, rap megastar Snoop Dogg and up and coming hip-hop artist Wiz Khalifa will be performing at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre on Monday, December 12th.

Snoop Dogg is a rap icon and quite possibly the most recognizable rap star in the world. Hailing from Long Beach, California, he’s been a big part of the rap scene since 1992 when he started recording his first record, Doggystyle, with fellow west coast rapper/super producer, Dr. Dre. He’s such a big celebrity that he’s endorsed a wide array of products from Orbit Gum to the Chrysler 300, and he even has his own clothing line, Snoop Dogg Clothing. It’s safe to say that Snoop Dogg is a household name in the US.

Wiz Khalifa is one of the brightest young stars in the rap world today. His hit songs include “Roll Up” and “Black and Yellow”. Both songs were Billboard hits with “Black and Yellow” being triple platinum and number one on the overall US music charts in 2010.

Free Basketball Tickets for Donating Toys

KU fans can receive free tickets to an upcoming men’s and women’s basketball game by donating to ‘Toys for Tots’ this holiday season! Fans can donate an unopened toy at the Booth Family Hall of Athletics between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Wednesday, November 30 to Friday, December 2, and receive free tickets to an upcoming men’s and women’s basketball game.

Fans will receive one ticket per toy (two ticket maximum) to the men’s game on December 6 game against Long Beach State (while supplies last). Fans will also receive two tickets to the December 8 women’s basketball game versus Wisconsin. The Toys for Tots toy drop is in the Booth Family Hall of Athletics located on the east side of Allen Fieldhouse.
